Carcassonne is one of the most visited cities in France. The tourist draw is the magnificent Carcassonne Castle, one of the largest restored castles in France. When first viewed resting on its sprawling perch above Carcassonne city, it looks straight out of a fairy tale. Inside, the castle is full of tourist shops and restaurants, but there are still perhaps a hundred permanent residents.
